Toni Whitaker
The name "Toni Whitaker" is known to fashionable women in Houston—and all over the globe. A major player in the fashion industry, Toni Whitaker is known for her couture and ready-to-wear collections, both of which showcase her simple, elegant style.
A native of Camden, South Carolina, Toni Whitaker studied apparel design at Syracuse University, where she received her B.S. degree. She later earned a second degree from North Carolina State University, where she studied textile technology. A teacher as well as an avid student, she has taught at Arizona State University and here in Texas—courses ranging from costume history to visual merchandising and clothing design.
For 25 years, Ms. Whitaker has brought her diverse, intriguing designs, inspired by everything from African textiles to old Hollywood glamour, to the forefront of the Houston social and fashion scenes.
She has created striking costumes for several Houston-area stage plays, and has recently begun to exhibit her beautiful fashion illustrations at several locations around Houston.
